Biography
Erica was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. Her family reflects the diversity, successes and struggles of families in Ohio. She was raised by a single mother, who, like most of her family, worked in a factory making car parts at Delphi Packard Electrical. Erica is the product of Youngstown Public Schools and graduated from Chaney High School.
She is a proud veteran of the United States Navy serving on active duty in Norfolk, Virginia. Erica was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal for her dedication and professionalism while providing continuous feet support of two carrier battle groups, four amphibious ready groups and numerous auxiliary steaming units during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Erica is a first-generation college graduate. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology with a focus on juvenile delinquency from Cleveland State University. She also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Walden University. Erica spent many years working with organizations advocating on behalf of children and families with the Cuyahoga County Job & Family Services, YMCA Head Start/Early Head Start Program, Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA), and the Black Child Development Institute – Atlanta Affiliate.
After many attempts to pursue her dream of going to law school and become an attorney, Erica was accepted into Capital University Law School. While attending Capital, she was very active in many organizations. She served as a Junior Fellow for the Family and Youth Law Center, 1L Representative and Day-Vice President of the Black Law Student’s Association, Co-President of the Health & Law Society, American Bar Association (ABA) Representative to the Student Bar Association, ABA Deputy Lt. Governor of Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Programs (VITA) for the law student division and a member of Capital’s ABA National Moot Court Team where she was selected to receive the Central Ohio Association for Justice Scholarship for winning Best Advocate in Capital’s Moot Court Honor Round. She was a David D. White Scholarship recipient and a past participant of the Columbus Bar Association’s Minority Clerkship Program.
Upon graduating from law school, Erica was awarded the 2017 Graduate of the Year for the Black Law Student’s Association, Capital University Law School Dean’s Ambassador Award and Order of the Barristers.
Erica is a member of the Columbus Bar Association, American Bar Association, Women Lawyers of Franklin County and the League of Women Voters.
Erica is the mother of twin girls. She enjoys spending time with them and traveling with family and friends. She collects books and is an avid reader. She also volunteers her time with many community organizations.

Priorities
I am running for office because I will bring a level of unconditional advocacy to the statehouse. I have become uncomfortable watching on the sidelines as a mockery of our democracy continues to be made. All while, my contribution was nothing more than a complaint. My inaction was unacceptable. I refuse to idly stand by while income inequality, access to affordable and quality healthcare, and the fight for equitable education continue to be growing issues. Columbus is undoubtedly hailed as one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family – yet, there are residents who do not share in that sentiment, who feel as though they and their communities have been left behind. I am running to make sure their voices are amplified and empowered in the statehouse. I am choosing to be a role model, so young people will never have to be asked, “why not you?” They will just know.
