Biography

State Representative, Shawn Thierry, was elected in a special election in August 2016 to represent House District 146 in the Texas House of Representatives. District 146 is a unique district that covers numerous communities in the Southeast and Southwest parts of greater Houston.

State Representative Shawn Thierry was elected to represent House District 146 in the Texas House of Representatives in November 2016. She has been a life-long resident of House District 146, and she currently resides in the Northfield community with her four year old daughter, Klaire Bijou. Ms. Thierry graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Management and received her Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. She has been a practicing attorney for twenty one years and is the proud solo practitioner of her own law firm, Law Offices of Shawn Thierry.

Rep. Thierry is a strong advocate for protecting the interests of the underserved and demonstrates this commitment through her work both in and out of the Capitol. She serves on the Board of Directors for Beyond Careers, a community-based nonprofit, and on the Houston Endowment’s Maternal Mortality Steering Committee. As a freshman legislator in the 85th Session, she successfully passed six bills out of the House, two of which were signed by the Governor. Rep. Thierry was also named “Freshman of the Year” by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus.

Ms. Thierry says her life motto is inspired from author, Erma Bombeck, quoting, “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, I used everything you gave me.” Representative Thierry is committed to implementing good public policy on behalf of her constituents and looks forward to being a formidable legislator in the great state of Texas.
