Running for U.S. Representative, Massachusetts, District 1 (2018)

Biography

Tahirah Amatul-Wadud runs a successful law practice in Western Massachusetts with a focus in domestic relations and civil rights law. She is a graduate of Elms College in Chicopee and Western New England University School of Law in Springfield. Tahirah was named a 2016 Top Woman of Law by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.

As a volunteer commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, Tahirah advocates before the state legislature to enact laws responsive to the needs of women and girls. She is a member of the Family Advisory Council of Boston Children's Hospital where she volunteers as a way of showing her deep gratitude to the hospital for its care of her 6-year old daughter who received life saving heart surgery as a newborn. Tahirah understands the need to prioritize healthcare for every person and is thus an avid supporter of Medicare for All.

As candidate for the First District of Massachusetts, and long time small business owner, Tahirah is prioritizing aggressive job growth and development throughout the District. She will vigorously promote a plan to combat climate change, advance a strong universal public education policy, and create opportunities for reliable and affordable high speed Internet access for every resident.

Tahirah is passionate about Interfaith outreach in an effort to increase religious literacy in the nation and diminish divisive rhetoric. Tahirah was invited to the White House convening titled “Celebrating and Protecting America's Tradition of Religious Pluralism” where the community program 'Know Your Neighbor' was launched. She serves as legal counsel for religious congregations in Massachusetts and New York to protect the religious freedom rights of all citizens.

In her most important role, Tahirah is a married mother of seven beautiful children. “I am honored to have the support of my family, friends and many neighbors as we launch this most important campaign. As your congresswoman I promise to always center and uplift your needs in the great First Congressional District."
