Priorities
Accountability & Transparency
Accountability must be a priority to earn and maintain the trust of our citizens. Myya’s goal is to create a bridge of communication, where the concerns of her constituents are heard on a consistent basis. Too often citizen’s voices are silenced, but this will not be her cause. However, it doesn’t stop there. Once issues have been addressed, there should be a publicized progress report as to where we are in resolving concerns on a consistent basis.
Education
For too long students within Detroit & Hamtramck schools have suffered at the hands of careless state legislatures with poor funding. It’s time that our students receive the world-class education that they deserve. With after school programming, vocational education, and skilled-job training, constituents can excel to higher heights and become a greater support for students, teachers, and administrators alike.
Quality of Life
To reach our full potential, the most vulnerable members within our community can no longer be disregarded. At risk residents, homelessness, and littered waste that continues to contour the landscape of our cities remain a large concern. With programs in place to correct these wrongs, House District 4 is sure to reach its full potential by addressing mental health and community engagement.
Economic Development
Tackling unemployment is one of Myya’s major concerns. The influx of businesses in Detroit and Hamtramck have helped strengthen the district’s economy but have not been to the benefit of all citizens. To ensure that the development throughout District 4 is as inclusive as possible, Myya’s focus will be to promote the birth of new businesses as well as the expansion of established businesses. Strengthening programs that provide job training in which employers require in the 21st century, will also be her priority.
