Biography

Camille Y. Lilly has spent her entire professional career advocating and working diligently toward economic opportunity and community development, health, wellness and educational advancement within the legislative district to which she was appointed Local Committeemen in April 2010.

Her Leadership style is distinguished by inclusiveness, transparency, coalition building and the development of sustainable solutions to address lingering problems in Chicago’s economically disadvantaged and underserved communities.

As Director of West Garfield Park Families with a future program (1986-1990) for Bethel New Life, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to sustainable development in challenged communities.

• Camille managed the State of Illinois Infant Mortality initiative reducing the infant mortality rate from 21 deaths per 1000 live births to 17.

• As Vice President of Beth-Anne Life centre she developed the plan to revitalize a 9.2 acre closed hospital campus and raised more than $4 million for capital development and campus maintenance, conducted contract and labor negotiations and oversaw an operating budget of $2.7 million.

In 2002, Camille became a founding board member and, until recently, served as Volunteer Executive Director of the Austin Chamber of Commerce (ACC), creating a vision for economic growth and development to strengthen community partnerships and improving bottom lines for businesses in the Austin community. Some of her many accomplishments at the ACC include.

• Developing a summer youth work experience program benefiting over 500 young people at more than 60 businesses and organizations.

• Creating an executive leadership grant for individuals working or living in the community providing over 30 scholarships in conjunction with the local police to college bound youth.

• Teaming up with her local Alderman to successfully advocate for a big box retailer, which led to the creation of more than 400 jobs on the West side.

In her current position as Vice President of External Affairs and Development for Loretto Hospital, Camille organized the mayoral task force to address economic development in the Austin community and expanded the Board of Trustees to include representation by local residents and business persons. By maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, Camille has raised over $800,000 to help pay for services in the areas of addiction, breast cancer, prostate cancer, asthma and senior wellness.

Camille was born on the West side of Chicago and grew up in Oak Park, earned a bachelor’s of science in Business Administration from Drake University in 1983 and a master’s in public health administration from Oklahoma University in 1985. In winter of 2010 Camille was accepted into the executive MBA program at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Her personal philosophy: “It is incumbent upon all who are able to use their God-given talent and to harness our collective power as leaders in our families, our communities and in government to bring lasting change to improve the lives of men, women and children across our great state of Illinois.”
